“The photograph itself doesn't interest me.
Riccardo Schiassi was born in Bologna (Italy) on the 21st of July 1972. Since he was a child, he had the opportunity to know the art of photography thanks to his first important guide, his dad Franco and thanks to his grandfather and his uncle, all of them professional photographers who introduced him to photojournalism.
We usually think that photography is a way to interpret and represent what we see. For Riccardo, instead, photography is a way to get carried away by what he breathes and lives; for him photography is a way to travel alone in places where no one else will enter and where fantasy is not suffocated by rules.
Before starting to work only as a photographer, he worked as optician and contact lenses expert. From February 1991 to November 2007 he opened and run one of the two shops called “Schiassi veste lo sguardo”.
Taking a picture means being part of the photo itself, becoming the subject of the photo itself. This is what Riccardo believes. To obtain a beautiful picture, you don't have to pay attention only to light and expression, but you have to become one with your subject, breathe with him, move to his rhythm and immortalize him in his most natural moment.
From 1990 to 1994 he cultivated his interest and passion for sport and spirituality and taught muay thai at the New Everest Gym in Casalecchio di Reno (Bologna) following his master and guide Flavio Monti.
In the following years his state of mind took him to new experiences and sensations. First of all he experienced air and obtained the skydiving license at the Aviosuperfice in Molinella (Bologna). Than he experienced water.....and water became a real passion. At the Scuba School International he obtained the license for scuba diving and the boating license. Sailing a boat had always been his dream.
Than he joined the Italian Naval Association of Bologna and for two years he took part to many regatta on the yacht Bavaria 42 match (Crew Luca’s Shipowner: Ramallini)
In 2007 he decided to change his life and realized his lifelong dream: to live close to nature and in particular to sea, his great passion.
From dream to reality, from Casalecchio di Reno (Italy) to Fuerteventura (Spain), from his work in a shop to the freelance profession. Now he is a freelance photographer living and working both in Spain and Italy where he is one of the official photographer of the Universities of Bologna and Milan and cooperates with a famous Italian advertising agency.
